Whatever happened, it was so fast that no SOS was sent, and by the time Captain Cooper realized that something was wrong, it was simply too late...the Fitz and its crew were already gone.

I have a suggestion for future videos to maybe quiet some of the people that keep complaining about your use of photos or footage from other ships or events (i.e. the Titanic wreckage, Ethiopian Airlines 961 ditching) when you’re simply trying to fill in a visual space to help aid the story telling process. I would recommend adding a footnote to all photos/footage that aren’t from the topic of the documentary saying something like “not actual photo or footage” or “for illustrative purposes only.” I don’t know if you’ve ever watched any of Mr. Ballen’s videos before, but he uses this format and then doesn’t put any footnotes on screen when showing real photos or video from the incident which I greatly appreciate because it helps me know what’s real and what isn’t. I think if you did this, it would let the audience know immediately that you aren’t trying to pass another famous event off as being part of the event you’re discussing.

Thanks. I appreciate that. I have actually done this on several videos. There were still complaints. In the end I just left it because I think some people complain no matter what I do.

Very very good,I'd been looking for the whole story especially how that anchor got into the Blackthorn. The Coast Guard charged pilot Knight with negligence ,writing "he failed to stop or reduce speed when he was unable to determine the course or intentions of the other vessel".Also "that he violated the nautical rules of the road by failing to sound a whistle signal and for failing to establish a passing agenda with Blackthorn and for failing to sound a four blast when he became unsure of Blackthorns intention." I would love to hear pilot Knights'side of the story and why he didn't at least slow down.

I guess you will have many theories of how it sunk but this link may offer you a little insight of how quickly one similar vessel can sink and break its back on a high wave and sink within seconds. I think the Edmund Fitzgerald broke its back but views and opinions may vary. It is actual video footage and most men I believe lost their lives. They sent an SOS but too late for salvation. Your videos have the highest integrity and intellect and are highly superior to pretty much everything else on RUclips. Warm regards Peter London UK ruclips.net/video/YxCWHY2P5wc/видео.html

That's not how things happened. The ice machine didn't outright fail, it was under producing the amount they needed and they didn't have any advanced warning of the storm. The film distorts this heavily and intentionally in its storyline, but it's not true to reality.

actually has extreme competency. yeah the presenter is top level both at words contents and density of delivery I mean the complexity of situation the multiple aggressive other ships i mean we do notice that the pilots have maximum measures continuously available and they know in real life probably what they got ready to save their butts probably won't work. It's always a unexpected mindfuck that surprises and is happening too fast. sort of a relative of Murphy yeah a worse spirit from Pandora's Box. gets our pilots to crash

I think it is a combination of most of them. Weak spine and overloaded would exhaggerate the effect of poorly secured hatch covers and over topping waves. I would not rule out weakening by waves at both ends or in the center leaving the rest hanging in the air, but a wave supporting the center of the ship with reduced freeboard would exhaggerate any water intake.

Damn. I was so hoping Flores survived. He seems to have had more sense and courage than some of his superiors. Poor coms alone can kill you. Poor training alone can kill you. Combine the two and you have a serious problem. And horn protocols should be universal. No agency should be making up their own rules when they're often in close proximity to other ships which aren't a member of the same agency that don't follow the same rules. That's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard of. This was a fascinating episode. Thanks. 👍

Another theory, based on a similar long liners sinking,is that the Andrea Gail stuffed her bow several times with such force that the hull compressed and her sides split.Kinda like stepping on a beer can that’s standing up .As the beer can compresses the sides split open. She was a steel hull and all that energy pushing on the bow has no place to go and she can’t displace all that energy by flexing. That energy has to go somewhere so it may have forced its way out the sides by splitting the sides of the hull.Ive been fishing commercially for Tuna for 38 seasons and have been caught it some extremely nautical conditions, where I could feel the entire boat flexing and torquing under the strain and they were fiberglass hulls that flexed.

I don't understand the refusal to take a better route. You're not in a hurry, you live on the ship, what's another day or two? Yes, you should question your captain when he's screwing up, it's not military. When he goes to sleep, you change course. All they could possibly do is fire you. Not a one of them can get a new job now.

One of the key factors of the ms Estonia’s sinking was actually not the visor (the visor did let in water every time a wave hit it) the main factor of the Estonia’s sinking was a 4 meter gash found on her starboard side which was discovered in 2020 many people think that it was caused when a Russian submarine hit the ship, the list goes on about the theories. Please correct me in the replies section if I’m wrong about something

This is the risk of easy routine operations ... eventually people get complacent and then something as stupid as a cheap fan working or not becomes the difference between life and death. They should have only used the sub after it was in full working order. Furthermore, they should have had a diver onboard who could go outside to untangle and fix stuff when needed instead of having regular passengers. Also, with such an operation they should have had a rover as well that could perform basic stuff like cut a wire and such. Last ... I assume those kinds of Coast Guard rescues aren't that standard and to their credit they did a lot of logistic work to get multiple options on scene ... but ... damn. They lost lots of hours fumbling.

In comparison to aircraft or train accidents, ship disasters feel like they happen in slow motion and should be easily preventable, but I always have to remind myself that ships can't be stopped on a dime and the slower they are the harder they are to steer.
